Captain Marco is the consummate adventurer.
He has experience completing ocean
passages in sailboats in the North
Atlantic, kite surfing in South America,
wilderness and white water canoeing
trips, long distance cyclist trips in
Canada, 100 mile ski marathons, and
completed a term as a Search and
Recovery Diver in the Finnish Navy.
He has raced various classes of sailboats
since his early childhood and competed
at the national championship level,
winning several podium finishes in
keelboat races, both single-handed and
fully crewed divisions. For many years,
Marco was an advanced sailing and
navigation instructor in Canada for CYA and for ASA in the United States.
Marco sailed his own 40 foot sloop
through Gulf of St. Lawrence, from the Great Lakes, and around the east coast of Canada, down to South
America and back - twice! His professional yachting career consists of sailing yachts, expedition
yachts and motor yachts, which he has Captained around the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Black Sea, Red
Sea, Great Lakes,and North Atlantic.
Marco is an MCA licensed yacht captain and holds an unlimited
Master 200 ton and Chief Mate 3000 ton ticket with endorsement for sailing vessels.
Beyond his maritime experience, Marco is an Electronics Engineering Technician and worked several years
as a Director of Technical Services of a computer integrator with a staff of 180 people He also ran a
consulting firm for eight years, which involved him in key roles on large, multinational, technical projects.
His other interests include furniture and boat building. He built a Flying Dutchman sailing dingy for the
Canadian Olympic Sailing Team and assisted in the building of an Open 40 racing sailboat, the Spirit if
Canada, for the 2003-04 Around Alone single-handed race around the globe.
Chef Robyn has been a chef aboard luxury yachts for the past six years on both private and charter vessels that include sailing
monohulls and catamarans, and luxury motor and expedition yachts. After sailing out of Toronto with Marco,
becoming a chef on a charter boat seemed a very natural transition. Robyn has also taken part in the Rolex Cup and the BVI Spring Regatta in
the Virgin Islands.
Her meals blend international
flavors and characteristics, creating a very unique menu and presentation. Robyn enjoys introducing new
foods to her guests, or old favorites in a new and delectable ways.
Takapuna has a total of five professional crew members including the Captain and Chef.
