Day 1: Board your yacht at American Yacht Harbour in Red Hook, St. Thomas and enjoy a leisurely sail to Francis Bay on St John. Have an afternoon swim, then relax and enjoy a Caribbean sunset while you sip the Captain's cocktail of the evening. Then your personal chef will prepare a delicious meal for you to enjoy as you dine in the cockpit under the stars.
Day 2: After breakfast, depart for St. John's Leinster Bay for snorkeling with the turtles around Watermelon Cay, or take a hike to Annaburg Sugarmill, one of the best preserved ruins in the islands. Return for lunch and then on to Soper's Hole, Tortola, to clear customs in the British Virgin Islands. Afterwards, sit back and enjoy an exhilarating sail to The Bight on Norman Island. Snorkel The Caves, made famous in Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. After dinner, take a dinghy ride to the William Thornton (a floating bar / grill dubbed the Willy T) or Pirates Landing for some fun and dancing.
Day 3: Depart Norman and do a morning snorkel at The Indians, then on to Bluff Bay, on Beef Island, for lunch and kayaking in the mangroves. Your night anchorage may take you to Marina Cay, where you may choose to sample the local cuisine at one of our favorite restaraunts, Donovan's Reef, on Scrub Island. Sit on their stone terrace before dinner and soak up the view with a Painkiller in hand.
Day 4: The next morning may take you to The Dogs for snorkeling and lunch. After an hour or two of sailing, and possibly a bit of fishing along the way, you'll find yourself entering the North Sound of Virgin Gorda, where you'll anchor on Calhoun's Reef where you can sit back and relax in the hammock while watching the various sailing and mega yachts make their way in through the reef strewn entrance.
Day 5: In the morning, take a taxi ride across the island, stopping to take photographs of several beautiful vistas, to explore The Baths, where wondrous house-sized boulders form fascinating pools and grottoes, stopping on your way back to the boat to shop in Spanish Town or for a quick hike to the highest peak on Virgin Gorda, with stunning views of the surrounding islands. Following lunch, you can wander around the Bitter End Yacht Club and rent a hobie for a fun-filled afternoon of sailing through The Sound.
Day 6: Depart North Sound for a sail along the north shore of Tortola to Sandy Spit (keep your eyes open for humpback whales from January to April) where you can wander a "desert island" before returning to the boat for Cheeseburgers in Paradise. On to Jost Van Dyke - visit Foxy's Tamarind Beach Bar. This is a good spot to sample the local cuisine and enjoy a West Indian meal ashore - an island BBQ of freshly caught mahi mahi and jerk chicken - and some evening revelry listing to a local reggae band.
Day 7: After breakfast (with a farewell Bloody Mary or Mimosa, perhaps?) and a final swim, sail on to St. John's Cruz Bay to clear U.S. Customs and to do a bit of shopping. Afterwards, you'll be dropped off on St. Thomas for some last minute duty-free shopping before you catch your flight home.
There are hundreds of anchorages in the Virgin Islands to choose from and limitless variations on activities (i.e. sailing, snorkeling, rendezvous diving, kayaking, fishing, exploring beaches) and destinations listed in this sample itinerary. Your captain will base the week's itinerary on your preferences as well as current weather conditions. Optional sail itineraries may include the island of Anegada if weather and time permits.
Your itinerary is completely flexible depending on how active or relaxed you would like to be during your charter. Prior to your vacation the crew will be in touch to introduce themselves and discuss an itinerary outline with you. Ultimately this is your private yacht, so you can change your plans and stay longer in an area, or head off to new shores whenever you'd like - it is entirely up to you.
